Luke is joint winner of nationwide playwright competition.

Luke Fields has been named as the joint winner of a prestigious nationwide playwriting competition from the National Theatre.

Luke Fields (17) who attends Aquinas Diocesan Grammar School, received the honour after impressing judges in New Views 2024, an annual competition for young people.

Luke’s play, House on Fire, was selected from over 500 submissions from across the UK and will now be presented as a staged reading at the National Theatre.

His play was selected as joint winner alongside Teulu by Emyr Strudwick (19), from Merthyr College in South Wales.

Luke and Emyr will now have the opportunity to develop their plays from page to stage alongside Director of the National Theatre Rufus Norris (Nye), who will direct Teulu, and theatre director Emily Burns (Dear Octopus), who will direct House on Fire.

Both plays will be presented consecutively, followed by a post-performance discussion with the writers and directors at the National Theatre on July 4-5, as part of the free New Views Festival.
